Haiti Post-Earthquake Housing

Following the devastating 2010 earthquake in Haiti, BRAC Haiti in collaboration with FONKOZE with funding from the Mennonites Foundation embarked on providing housing for 300 victims for the catastrophe. The work was focus on a mountainous area called Fondwa, a province of Leogane district. The approach was to start with a collaborative workshop with the beneficiaries to understand their needs aspirations. Secondly, a training workshop with builders to understand their methodology and to come to solution on how to make it better back better with existing techniques and budgetary constraints. In result, a total of 300 houses, each 295 square feet with a outdoor toilet, a water collection tank and a solar light kit was provided with in the budget of $2500 per household.
